The Devil’s Punch Bowl

Last week we decided to go for a road trip to Niagara Falls.

On the way back we decided to go to the Devil’s Punch Bowl.

This isn’t our first visit here but - the views are just beautiful.

There is a little store just around the corner where you can buy retro toys and stuff, cherry trees to pick your own cherries, yummy treats and home made goods. Definitely worth checking out and it won’t take up your whole day.

The Devil’s Punch Bowl is located in Hamilton and part of the Niagara escarpment.

It was created at the end of the last ice age by huge melt-water rivers that plunged over the Stoney Creek Escarpment, thus carving the Punch Bowl and gorge.

This conservation area contains two separate falls, Upper and Lower Punch Bowl Falls. A 5.5-metre classical waterfall, and the main Upper Falls, which is a 33.8-metre ribbon waterfall.

There is a small, and easy, 1.5km trail leading to the views.

There is also a spectacular view of Stoney Creek and Hamilton Harbour from the lookout, not to mention the seemingly bottomless gorge.
